By Martha Bell, Congregational Engagement
Stewardship is at the core of our current and future success as a congregation. The Stewardship Committee plays a vital role in helping members and friends support the financial health of our church community. Committee members and short-term volunteers find joy and connection by assisting all of us, members and friends of UUCWC, to tap into our own wells of generosity.
How Can You Participate?
Stewardship seeks to communicate the church’s financial needs and inspire members with information and encouragement. The main goal is to promote generosity and gratitude. This is achieved by organizing an end-of-year giving event in December, followed by the annual pledge drive usually starting in March. Serving on the Stewardship Committee provides opportunities to express your creativity and passion by helping craft messages that resonate with everyone through writing, designing, presenting, and connecting with the congregation one-on-one. You can also support stewardship through short-term projects. Contact the committee at stewardship@uucwc.org if you’re interested in getting involved.
More About Stewardship
Though the committee’s energy peaks during two main periods each year, preparing for both the end-of-year event and pledge drive requires significant advance planning. The tasks and activities vary and are often influenced by the design and execution of each initiative, including both short-term and recurring duties. Typically, the committee meets monthly on Zoom, except for June and July. This virtual setup makes participation easier for those whose involvement with UUCWC is primarily online.
Here’s what our committee members say about their experience on the Stewardship Committee:
- “For one, I’m a numbers guy. But more importantly, I enjoy engaging the congregation in their generosity, so that the funds needed for the church’s mission can be provided every year.”
- “Feeling enriched by all UUCWC offers, I want to help ensure that those gifts are available to future generations. It’s about providing an avenue for each of us to put our money where our values are.”
- “What we do as members of the stewardship team fulfills the church’s mission. Stewardship is a form of ministry.”
- “Numbers don’t excite me, but stories do. We all need help in seeing what our contributions have made possible and what they could yet do, making storytelling an important part of what we do.”
