By Denny Rodgers, UUCWC Treasurer
For this quarter, I am sharing two financial reports prepared by Lynne Quinto, our Controller. After each report, my commentary will highlight key line items for your attention.

Commentary
Total Revenue – Any number at or above 25% in the % of the Budget column is good news, as we are ¼ into the fiscal year.
Total Expenditures – Any number near 25% reflects that we are on budget for the fiscal year.
Net Revenue – Note that we budgeted for this deficit of roughly $98,000. At the Annual Meeting, the congregation approved using $52,000 from non-restricted/reserve cash available (savings) to fund the Assistant Minister’s position through June. The remaining $46,000 represents the shortfall between pledged (and other) income and anticipated expenses and was also approved for payment from savings (See Cash Analysis).

Commentary
Facility Improvement Reserve Fund – This is money set aside for planned replacements and repairs. It is not part of the operating budget. For example, when we paid over $57,000 to replace the sanctuary HVAC system, neither the operating budget nor non-restricted cash available (savings) was impacted.
Operating Expense Reserve Fund – This is money set aside to cover three months of operating expenses if the revenue stream is seriously impacted. We have never had to use even a portion of this in over 10 years.
Non-restricted/reserve Cash Available (savings)
- Currently at almost $87,000.
- As a result of Robin’s retirement in early January, savings will be increased by $18,000 when staff and volunteers take over her workload.
- An additional $13,000 granted from the Endowment Committee was not included in the budgeted income for this fiscal year.
- Total will exceed the $98,000 deficit shown on the Summary report.
Looking Ahead
While it is reassuring to know that we have enough savings to cover a deficit budget without tapping into reserves, it is essential to run successful End of Year Gift and Pledge Campaigns to maintain a financially healthy community.
