Chalice Circles
All groups have open rolling enrollment. People join or leave a Chalice Circle throughout the year. Most Chalice Circles meet in the evening once per month on Zoom.
Chalice Circles is a small group curriculum that uses questions and spiritual exercises based on the monthly theme to encourage participants to reflect more deeply on the theme, their deeper selves and the world. The format is simple. Participants learn by listening, without interruption, to what their fellow group members choose to say and then share what they have learned about themselves. UUCWC has seven Chalice Circles including one for couples and one specifically for people who identify as LGBTQ+. Most Chalice Circles meet in the evening once per month on Zoom.
Creativity Matters
3rd Mondays, 6-8pm on Zoom
Facilitators: Nicole Robinson & Nancy Neff
3rd Wednesdays, 7:30-9:15pm on Zoom
Facilitators: Heather Edwards & Michelle Zechner
Limited to 8 participants per group
Explore where UUCWC’s theme of the month and creativity intersect in your life. Our virtual time together will include a time to center and check in, a creative warm-up, and a chance to share your responses to a journal prompt and project invitation from the monthly packet. Engage with the monthly theme in an embodied way before each gathering by reading the packet and spending time with a question, a prompt, and a project of your choosing. This group is for anyone who is curious, who wants to join a creative community, and who is willing to show up and take small risks in a safe place. No need to be an artist. Our intention is not to produce art but to play, enjoy the process, and explore our spirituality through creativity.
UU Wellspring: Spiritual Deepening for the UU Soul
UU Wellspring courses offer spiritual deepening for Unitarian Universalists.
Each curriculum incorporates five elements: 1) Daily spiritual practice; 2) Small group connections; 3) Individual work with a Spiritual Director/Companion; 4) Readings and resources for knowledge and reflection; and 5) Reflection and commitment to living our values in the world. UU Sources is the prerequisite for all other UU Wellspring courses. UU Wellspring courses begin in the Fall.
Pathways
Tuesdays nights: February 3, 17; and March 3, 17 from 7:30 to 9:00 pm on Zoom
Facilitator: Rev. Kim
Pathways is a 4-session conversation about faith, UU-ism, and UUCWC, facilitated by Rev. Kim for both people new to Unitarian Universalism and long-time members. Some at-home study and reflection is part of the class. Each person’s perspective adds means and knowledge to the conversation. This class is required if you are interested in becoming a member.
“A Preferential God: Finding our Way in the Tension between Liberation Theology and Unitarian Universalism.”
Tuesdays: February 15th and 22nd from 2:30-4pm on Zoom
Facilitator: Rev. Lisa
Since the mid-20thcentury, Liberation Theology has offered an answer of hope to those facing poverty, hardship, and oppression in this world. Join Rev Lisa for two sessions to learn about Liberation Theology and the ways that it aligns and lives in tension with Unitarian Universalism. In the second class, all will have an opportunity to explore their own personal theologies.
A Chanting Meditation to Improve Memory
Sunday, March 15th from 11:30-12:30 at UUCWC OR
Thursday evening, March 19th from 7:00-8:00 on Zoom
Facilitator: Wendy Stasolla
This workshop focuses on the meditation practice known as Kirtan Kriya which is a chanting meditation that stimulates blood vessels in the part of the brain that deals with memory. This short 13-minute practice offers benefits for brain health, stress relief and emotional well-being. Research shows that it improves memory, focus, and helps with anxiety, depression and sleep. The workshop will include a video in which doctors discuss its benefits, Wendy’s own experience with the practice and an opportunity to try the practice yourself.
Gender 201
Sunday, March 1 after the service both online and in person
Join Rev. Lisa for a Question Box-style program after the service. All of your well-meaning questions about gender and trans identity will be answered. Even if you have attended in the past, please come as new questions will be answered. Please note, this space is intentionally for those who do not identify as trans or non-binary in an effort to honor the fact that marginalized people are not our teachers.
