Chi Yi Breathing

Consideration of a Proposed 8th Principle

At the congregational meeting we will be voting on whether we should affirm and hence adopt a proposed 8th principle drafted by Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism (BLUU):
We covenant to affirm and promote:
Journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.

Auction Social Action Contribution Proposal
Auction Team

In keeping with the mission of UUCWC, the Auction Committee proposes that 50% of net auction proceeds, after the budgeted revenue from the auction is met, be donated to social action causes. The Council for Faith in Action will decide how that money is to be awarded. We believe that this will help forward our social action mission at UUCWC and give members of our congregation an additional incentive to participate in the auction. If approved, this would be in effect for the auction in 2019.

Update from the Racial Justice Initiative Praxis Group, May 2018

Dan Tuft, Co-Chair, Racial Justice Initiative

7. Political Education, Study and Training
The congregation offers regular opportunities for members to learn about justice issues, gain concrete skills, and develop political analysis.  This assessment point was the focus of our March, 2018 Praxis Group meeting. The Praxis Group supports the adoption of the 8th Principle ( www.8thprincipleuu.org ) and will have two meetings (May and June) to complete the assessment process.

Budget Discussion

Sunday, May 20, 11:30am

In an effort to keep everyone informed, answer questions in as much detail as is wanted, and to be mindful of the amount of time spent at the Congregational Meeting, there will be a Budget discussion on May 20 at 11:30am. Please note: This also means that at the Congregational Meeting the budget discussion will remain high level.

Additional 8th Principle Listening Circle

Monday, May 21, 7:00pm

Discuss/explore/question
what the proposed 8th principle means for our congregation. It is also an opportunity to discuss any lingering impact of the auction theme change and its connection to institutionalizing a racial justice lens / decentering whiteness. All opinions are welcomed that are shared in covenant.

Parking Update

UUCWC has entered into an agreement with an engineering firm that will perform the work for the next steps needed for approval by governmental agencies on our parking improvement project.. Hear more details in the Facilities Report at the Annual Meeitng.

Service Awards

Fulfilling UUCWC’s Vision and Mission depends on the dedicated and combined efforts and gifts of many individuals. We’ll honor some of these individuals at the Annual Meeting.
