Dispelling Nominating Myths

by Sandy Muccioli, Chair, Nominating Committee

Do you want to run in the opposite direction when you hear about the Nominating Committee? You aren’t alone. When UUCWC had fewer members, it seemed the same people were targeted to join or chair committees just to be stuck there for what seemed an eternity. This is not the case!

The fact is, our thriving Church community is energized by our leadership. Most see service to our community as a spiritual practice of love. The term for most positions is only two years with an option to “re-up” for a second term. You can learn new skills in a safe ‘on the job’ environment, or add your leadership service to your resume.

The role of the Nominating Committee is to meet with and get to know you, our UUCWC Members, to learn what energizes you, how you are most comfortable working with others and if you can spare time for regular committee involvement or would prefer “one-ups”, i.e. targeted tasks that are not ongoing.

The Nominating Committee is where leadership turns when looking for someone happy to serve where needed- but we need to know who you are. We also have to fill open positions requiring Congregational vote at the next Annual Meeting on June 7, 2020. For the 2020-2021 Church year there are 4 Board of Trustee openings, 3 Nominating openings and 2 or 3 Endowment openings. (Endowment has three year terms.)

For the next couple of months, the Nominating Committee will be having conversations with individuals on Sundays during Middle Hour (10:00 and 10:30) and after Second Service (12:15). The conversations will last no longer than 20 minutes. To make an appointment, email nominating@uucwc.org with 3 or 4 options. If Sundays are not convenient, please let us know what days and time of day works for you. While in person is best, we can also use an application like Zoom, Facetime or Hangouts.

We’re looking forward to meeting with you!
