The ongoing and increasing attacks against migrants from our leadership and fellow Americans are both heartbreaking and dangerous.  We at the Unitarian Universalist Church at Washington Crossing hold firm with the side of love. No person is illegal, however denying asylum seekers a place of sanctuary is.

The physical, psychological and legal borders we have created in the face of the trauma and terror experienced by people seeking asylum are human-made tools that threaten the truth of our first and seventh Principles: the inherent worth and dignity of all people, and the interdependent web of all existence, respectively.

In response, we will seek to turn our concern into action; consider creative uses of our resources as tools of support and faithful resistance; and hold one another accountable – within and outside of our community – to the ramifications of treating fellow humans as anything other.

We make these statements, covenants and promises with one another and the larger world, as a means of living faithfully.
