Making a Difference in November

November is fast approaching and that means Thanksgiving and the beginning of our season of plenty. There are many nearby who aren’t as fortunate. You can help them by participating in two Social Action Projects that enable you to share with those in need: Thanksgiving Meal Donations and Turkeys for TASK.

Thanksgiving Meal Donations

No child should go hungry on Thanksgiving Day or any day, so HomeFront collects food items for their annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. HomeFront asks that we assemble a “basket” of food with all that’s needed to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner. We’ll make sure that they’re delivered to HomeFront in time for Thanksgiving. All baskets should be in the church lobby by Sunday, November 17th.

Typical items in a Thanksgiving Basket
Load your “basket” (boxes with lids, or laundry baskets):

  • Grocery store gift card for a turkey
  • Canned vegetables and canned fruit
  • Mashed potatoes (instant)
  • Stuffing mix -Dessert items
  • Fruit juice
  • Food for the rest of the week (e.g. cereal, peanut butter and jelly…)
  • Anything else to make a family’s Thanksgiving special

Please no perishables or glass items and no frozen turkeys.

Turkeys for TASK

Many supermarkets give away free frozen turkeys to frequent shoppers. Why not donate yours (free or purchased) to TASK. The Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) feeds those who are hungry in the Trenton area and offers programs to encourage self-sufficiency and improve the quality of life of its patrons. Turkeys are a mainstay of TASK’s day-to-day menu. They go a long way in providing healthy meals to the hungry.

All you have to do is to drop off your frozen turkey at UUCWC. The chest freezer at the bottom of the stairs (by the mechanical room) will be running and ready for your contributions. We’ll see that they’re delivered. We’ve donated as many as 25 turkeys in a year.

Please participate in these long time UUCWC Social Action projects. Share your plenty with those in need.
