What UUCWC Children Learn Each Year
Pre-K Ages 3 and 4
UUCWC is a warm and caring place where we make friends and experience a sense of wonder and respect for the world around us. We become familiar with our space and the rhythm of our Sunday mornings together, sharing stories, arts and crafts, circle time, free play, and snack.
Grades K – 1 UU Identity
We are introduced to the Unitarian Universalist 7 Principles. We learn that as Unitarian Universalists we are welcoming to all people, we care for others, create a fair and peaceful world, love the earth and are true to ourselves.
Grades 2 – 3 UU Identity
We learn who Unitarian Universalists are, what we believe, and how we live our faith. We discuss the connection between the choices we make in our lives and the beliefs and attitudes we hold as Unitarian Universalists.
Grades 4 – 5 Bible Literacy
Year A: We learn the best-known Hebrew and Christian stories from the Bible. We explore connections between biblical events and UU principles, and between biblical ideas and our own lives.
Grades 4 – 5 UU Identity
Year B: We learn the qualities of our Unitarian Universalist faith that nurture moral development and help us make positive life choices.
Grades 6 – 9 World Religions
Year A: We learn about and visit other religious communities, nurture our own UU faith, and understand theological diversity within the UU community.
Grades 6 – 9 Human Sexuality
Year B: One full-year of Our Whole Lives (OWL), the Unitarian Universalist sexuality curriculum.
Grades 6 – 9 Coming of Age
Year C: We explore our personal beliefs and values, deepen our understanding of Unitarian Universalism and examine our role in our own faith formation. We also do service projects for UUCWC and the community, work with a mentor to write a personal statement of current religious belief, go on a heritage trip to Boston and read our credo at a Sunday service in May.
Grades 9 – 12 Youth Group
We nurture our spiritual, emotional and intellectual growth, while developing leadership skills, building community, and serving the wider community. Activities include worship, learning, games, overnights, social action, and youth conferences.
All classes include worship, community building, centering, and service projects.
