Girl Scout Silver Award Project Needs Your Help

UUCWC’s Family Ministry Team is supporting Faith Engagement Student Peyton Anderson, who is working on her Girl Scout Silver Award which benefits HomeFront NJ, a longtime partner of UUCWC. Please read more about her project and how you can help!

Dear Friends,

I hope everyone is well.  I am working on my Girl Scout Silver Award with HomeFront.  This requires me to put in 50+ hours of my time to help the community.  I am putting together a recipe book with spices for the food-insecure families that HomeFront assists.  These recipes will be nutritious, easy to make, and will include mostly items from the food pantry.

I am reaching out because I need your help!  I’d like to collect spices, because the pantries do not include spices as an option.  I’m also conducting a bake sale to raise money for the cost of printing the recipe books.  Although it would be helpful to accept donations, the Girl Scout Silver Award rules say you are not able to accept donations, and so the bake sale will help.  For the bake sale I am hoping to achieve a goal of ~$240.

Spice Drive:

I will be taking the spices and putting them into starter pack bags and including them with the recipe book.  This will help out the families and may get them to try new foods!

There are two ways that you can help me here if you’re interested

                 – There is a bin in front of the church under the bench. You can place a bottle of spice there for pick up.

                 – You can use something like Amazon Prime and send me the spices directly (please find my address in the church directory under David Anderson)

I’ll be collecting the spices until July 23rd.

The spices in the recipes include:

SaltPepperGarlic PowderOnion PowderDried Thyme
Cayenne PepperDried oreganoCinnamonDried BasilSage
