First Recipient of a Roland Rahn Memorial Fund Scholarship

As a loving tribute to our dear Rollie when he passed away, many folks made donations to the church in his honor. Rollie was a great cook with a passion for food…as well as a strong commitment to HomeFront. Rollie’s family made the decision that the memorial funds should be used for scholarships to assist people connected with HomeFront who wished to pursue a career in culinary arts. The Fund is managed by UUCWC’s Food Ministry, of which Rollie was the first co-chair with Mike Muccioli.

The Food Ministry is pleased to announce the first recipient of the Scholarship Fund. Rosalie Morris has been a VISTA Volunteer as well as a HomeFront employee since 2005, working first with the HOPE Program and then moving to the WorkFirst initiative, where she currently works. Her position puts her in contact with case managers and Mercer County Social Services; her communication skills with these agencies are effective and professional. The weekly “Women’s Circle” which Rosalie initiated has made Thursday the highest attended day of the week! Rosalie’s supervisor describes her as reliable, energetic, enthusiastic and always prepared.

Rosalie has now decided to enter the field of culinary arts, with the goal of someday opening her own catering business. We were pleased to grant her the funds to attain her ServSafe Certification as a first step in this process.

The Food Ministry looks forward to the opportunity to grant funds to others in the near future. In addition, the guidelines for the Memorial Fund may be expanded to include other projects close to Rollie’s heart.
