The Faith Expression and Funding Team, part of the Council for Faith in Action (CFA), is responsible for the distribution of the 50% of the weekly plate allocated to social justice causes. Thanks to your generosity, the social justice portion of the plate from July – October was $4,622, enabling UUCWC to recently provide funding to the following organizations this fall:
Unitarian Universalist Service Committee ($1,000) for hurricane relief efforts in the Bahamas following Hurricane Dorian. Their efforts will: partner with local organizations working with underserved communities; support local efforts to rebuild in impoverished areas; and assist local initiatives to build systems that support these communities.
UU Pennsylvania Legislative Action Network ($500) (UUPLAN), an organization that organizes UUs to fulfill their mission of “pursuing justice by voting, advocating and making just public policies.” This organization is the Pennsylvania Equivalent to UU FaithAction NJ. It is hoped in the future that UUCWC becomes equally involved with this group as a significant portion of our members and friends reside in Pennsylvania.
Coalition for Peace Action ($350), a Princeton-based grassroots citizens organization which brings together people of all ages, backgrounds, professions, and political persuasions in support of three goals: global abolition of nuclear weapons, a peace economy, and a halt to weapons trafficking at home and abroad. https://www.peacecoalition.org/
Peace Action Education Fund ($100) for co-sponsorship of their annual interfaith service and conference https://www.peacecoalition.org/news-and-events/recent-events.html.
Support to UUCWC’s Faith Action Ministry to purchase books and supplies ($615) for ESL classes held at St. James AME Church in Hightstown and the Assembly of God Methodist Church in Robbinsville. Lead teachers for these classes are Bill Goodwin (Rev. Sue’s husband) and Barbara Jensen.
Funds were also allocated to the Faith Action Ministry to cover expenses for the food (food prep was donated), music and marketing for the recent community dinner and fundraiser benefitting the Latin American Legal Defense and Education Fund.
UUCWC Faith Expression and Funding continues to provide support for activities such as UUCWC’s HomeFront Monday Night Tutoring Program and the Wacky Wednesdays summer program.
