UUCWC’s Spring Auction – It’s A Festival!

Great company and lots of fun all year long!
by Chris Piatek

I will confess that as a new member, many years ago, the thought of participating in the Auction was daunting both in terms of bidding on auction offerings and thinking of things I could offer. But, soon, I got involved both as a participant and a helper and can say without hesitation that the annual auction has been a wonderful way to meet fellow congregants, laugh, enjoy a meal, see art and movies, take a class and make things with my own hands, dance, sing and so much more. The Auction provides us with incredible fellowship and community building opportunities. There is something for everyone. And, underlying all of the merriment the Auction provides is the solid financial support it provides to UUCWC.

Janessa Urwin, one of our newer members said this: “It feels like a very special occasion, like the way a family who regularly gets together for “game night” feels during a big holiday dinner. It’s our once-a-year event that makes us truly appreciate the way our community comes together to support the mission of UUCWC.”

Donna Miller, one of the sponsors of the much loved English Tea, has been supporting the auction for more than twenty years, missing only one Live Auction! Through the auction, Donna has enjoyed dinner on a sloop on the Delaware River, spent a weekend down the shore, and dined outdoors, among other wonderful events. The auction brings “great company and lots of fun all year long” for Donna.

“We really enjoy the yearly auction event as an opportunity to be “kid-free” (we love the babysitting support right at the Church) to mingle with friends, eat some good food and participate in the live auction. We love bidding on events and we always come home with something unexpected and fun!,” says Sonia Hardaway. (Child care is provided as part of your Live Auction admission. From 5:00pm to 9:00pm on the night of the live auction, a pizza dinner and fun activities are provided for kids. Pre-registration is required.)

For two weeks before the Live Auction, the Crossing Room will be filled with Silent Auction offerings for sign up. Even if you don’t bid on either the Silent or Live Auction offerings, the gala night food, drink and merriment are a social event unsurpassed. But, there are so many wonderful offerings—physical items, dinners, services and events—that you will not want to miss the opportunity of placing a bid or two or three.

The Auction Team has been busy working behind the scenes, accepting contributions for the program book and planning for the Live Auction. The deadline for contributions is April 1 for the May 5th event. Contributions are limited only by our creativity and willingness to sponsor an item or event. Get involved in the auction and enjoy our wonderful community! More information about the auction, and the form for contributions can be found at http://www.uucwc.org/spring-auction/.
