Rev. Kim’s Statement to the Imam of the Islamic Society of Central Jersey

In light of the Presidential Election results, please find the following statement written to the Imam of the Islamic Society of Central Jersey. Additional letters of solidarity from me, the children of UUCWC and our adults will continue in the weeks to follow. If you would like to be a part of this effort please contact me by email.

Dear Imam Chebli,

I am Rev. Kim Wildszewski and I serve the Unitarian Universalist Church at Washington Crossing. Also on this email is our Board President, Pam Shadzik, and our Director of Lifespan Religious Education, Robin Pugh.

In the past our young people have visited your Mosque through our Neighboring Faiths program; they and their adult companions have so greatly benefited from your open doors.

I write to you today knowing that the recent election results have been devastating and outright dangerous for many but especially the Muslim community. Our hearts are with you as is our commitment to a world that does not reflect the bigotry or scapegoating that we have heard espoused and encouraged.

If ever there is an opportunity to tangibly offer ourselves as allies, I hope you will call on me.

In faith,

Rev. Kim Wildszewski

The leadership at UUCWC is committed to giving our UUCWC community a way to process their thoughts and feelings around the election in a purposeful way. There will be both short and long term offerings.

Barbara Jensen and Jasmine Ueng-McHale are organizing a “Love Drop”. They are collecting letters of love and support from children (and adults). The letters and bouquets of flowers will be dropped off at a local Mosque, a LGBTQ center in Newtown, PA and an immigrant support organization. There will be a table at coffee hour on Nov. 20th and 27th for letter writing and donations for flowers. Additionally, our RE classes will write letters on November 27.

Julie Buehler and Ronnie Dobrowolski are organizing a service-oriented potluck; a date will be announcing in upcoming communications.
