UUCWC Website Policy

The ultimate responsibility for the editorial policies and practices concerning the UUCWC website rests with the Board of Trustees. Development and/or modification of these policies and practices will be done in consultation with the Communications Committee. The Communications Committee is responsible for the development and maintenance of the website and for implementing Board policies.

The primary functions of the UUCWC website are:
•    To serve as a vehicle for external church communications, marketing and outreach;
•    To attract and retain new members;
•    To build a vibrant and connected church community by fostering internal communication.

The website will include information on:
•    UUCWC – beliefs, membership, accessibility, etc.
•    Sunday services and the service schedule;
•    Ministries
•    Religious education programs and curriculums;
•    UUCWC Small Group Ministry and circles;
•    UUCWC Committees and working groups;
•    UUCWC social justice efforts;
•    Meetings, special events, fellowship opportunities;
•    Links to district and denominational information.

UUCWC will have a professional webmaster to make any necessary programming changes to the website. The Communications Chair or his/her designee will serve as the liaison with the webmaster.

The website is constructed in a manner that enables content to be easily managed. Each committee or group will have a page on the website, and will be responsible for posting information and ensuring that it remains current. The committee or group will inform the Communications Committee of the person they have designated to update their web page; the Communications Committee will provide instructions and a brief style guide. For further guidance, the review of UUA’s Standards and Styles Guide for websites, http://www.uua.org/about/standardsand/index.shtml, is suggested.

All material should be posted with the awareness that the UUCWC website will serve as a public introduction to, and for many people will be their first impression of, UUCWC and Unitarian Universalism. The website will communicate our guiding principles and beliefs in a clear and consistent manner. Committee and circle updates should be prepared in such a way that they are consistent with these principles.

As a non-profit religious institution, by IRS guidelines, UUCWC may not engage in electoral politics, including making any statements supporting or opposing any candidate or political party. This includes postings by any UUCWC wcommittee, circle, task force, or other group.

The Communications Committee will monitor the website to ensure the appropriateness of material posted. If it feels that posted material is inappropriate, the author will be contacted to discuss the material in question, and so that necessary edits can be made.

Personal contact information for individual members of the congregation – phone number, email address, etc. – should not be posted on the website. Photos with identifiable individuals will be published after obtaining the permission of those individuals.

Any questions or comments concerning the website should be addressed to the chair of the Communications Committee.
