Our Partnership with HomeFront

UUCWC is proud of our partnership with HomeFront, a non-profit organization whose mission is to end homelessness in central New Jersey. Our most significant and longest running collaboration is the HomeFront/UUCWC Tutoring Program. For more than 15 years UUCWC has provided tutoring for school children whose families are homeless. Every Monday night, about 30 children join us for a meal and one-on-one tutoring. UUCWC members and friends prepare supper; and they also serve as tutors, with additional support from area high school and college students. This has created a community-wide program, for which UUCWC provides the space, supplies, and financial support. During the summer we have a program running for 6-8 Wednesdays with enrichment activities on site or at an appropriate place (farm visit, hiking trails, guest speakers, and special learning activities).

We also join with HomeFront in a Back to School drive, a winter holiday program and a Mitten Tree.mittentree_2015

UUCWC sponsors a room at the HomeFront Family Preservation Center, which provides a secure place for families in transition. We purchase basic items to furnish the room; when a family moves out of the center, they take the furnishings and linens with them to get started in their own housing.

We also work closely with the Morrisville Food Center with a continuing food drive and by supplying volunteers to help distribute food. The Food Center and the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) receive funds from CFA. We also donate approximately 30 frozen turkeys to TASK during the holiday season.foodpantry2
