Standing on the Side of Love
As you may already know, Standing on the Side of Love is a public advocacy campaign that harnesses love’s power to stop oppression. The campaign is sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Association and is an inclusive multifaith effort.
The campaign is based on the belief that people should not be dehumanized through acts of exclusion, oppression, or violence because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, immigrant status, race, religion, political views, or any other identity.
Standing on the Side of Love confronts, head on, acts of exclusion, oppression, and violence based on identity. Grounded in the belief that all people deserve love and respect, the campaign pursues social change through advocacy, public witness, and speaking out in solidarity with those whose lives are publicly demeaned.
Believing that dehumanization can be met only with an outpouring of love, Standing on the Side of Love calls all those who are committed to the worth and dignity of all people to take a public stand on the side of love. The power of love heals divisions and builds community.
At UUCWC, we have a long history of working for social justice through such committees as Social Justice and Journey Toward Wholeness, the Council for Faith in Action, and activities too numerous to mention here. Now, we have the opportunity to join with Standing on the Side of Love to add our collective voice to help to fulfill the campaign’s mission.
You will be hearing and seeing more about Standing on the Side of Love at UUCWC in the coming weeks and months. Several projects are already being planned to provide us, as a loving community, with the opportunity to participate in this initiative.

Standing on the Side of Love Workshop – March 17
To continue our work at the congregational level, Standing on the Side of Love at UUCWC will hold a workshop on Wednesday, March 17th at 7:00pm. Kevyn Malloy will facilitate this opportunity to build our skills and confidence so that we can more effectively stand on the side of love in our everyday lives.
Please consider attending this SSL Workshop. Your participation is what will make it a worthwhile and empowering event. Contact Kathy Frey or Loren McAlister for further information and/or to register for the workshop. (Child care may be available; if interested, contact Kathy Frey by Mar. 7th.)
