Journey Towards Wholeness

Journey Towards Wholeness

The Journey Towards Wholeness Transformation Team supports a multicultural and diverse Unitarian Universalist faith that will be an equitable, pro-active, and soul-transforming, prophetic force for justice within ourselves, our congregation, and our community. The work of this committee is focused on policies and practices that encourage full participation and sustain thriving communities in which people are profoundly related.

Anti-Racism Transformation Team Mission

We, the Anti-Racist Transformation Team of UUCWC, acknowledge and accept responsibility for the devastating effects and presence of persistent, systemic, institutional racism within ourselves, our congregation, and the world.

Because we care about living the UU principles, specifically to honor the inherent worth and dignity of each person, and to work for peace, justice, equity and compassion for all, we commit to a long-term procces to combat racism by:

  • Advocating for and shaping an anti-racist, anti-oppressive culture within our congregations and community;
  • Educating ourselves about the nature of racism in order to thoughtfully and spiritually promote effective and strategic responses to racism;
  • Learning from each other by sharing personal and spiritual experiences;
  • Inspiring support and guiding the congregation through personal and structural changes to transform our congregation into a diverse, inclusive, multiracial, multicultural community.

Popcorn, Pizza and Opinions

Pizza Popcorn & Opinions is a monthly series in which featured films reveal the many aspects of, and responses to, racism and other oppressions, and celebrate diversity and multiculturalism.

Anti-Racism Libraries

The two anti-racism libraries housed at UUCWC contain a rich collection of materials, and are open twice per month during fellowship hours. JTW’s library houses an expanding collection of books and films. UUCWC is the home for the New York Metro District Anti-Racism and Diversity Committee’s library. The holdings of both libraries are listed at www.AntiRacism.net, including a listing of over 80 book reviews that, upon request, are available without charge.

The Unitarian Universalist Association maintains a listing of Anti-Racism, Anti-Oppression, Multicultural (ARAOMC) Resources.
