Director of Lifespan Religious Education

Robin Pugh
Robin M. Pugh, of Upper Holland, Pa., has been named Director of Lifespan Religious Education at the Unitarian Universalist Church at Washington Crossing. Pugh began work Aug. 1.

At UUCWC, Pugh’s primary responsibilities are to develop innovative curriculum for children and youth, and to oversee the development of adult enrichment programs that enable personal and spiritual growth.

“My goals are to have happy, safe, respected, engaged children in a religious education program that fosters spiritual growth through increased knowledge of self, others, and our denomination,” says Pugh, “and to offer new and existing adult members and friends opportunities to explore their spirituality and develop community.”

Pugh comes to UUCWC from BuxMont UU Fellowship, in Warrington, Pa., where she was Director of Religious Education for the past nine years. Her original career path was that of a lawyer, but Pugh turned toward religious education when she began religious “homeschooling” her own young children. She later began working at BuxMont on a half-time basis.

“At first I thought I would be a religious educator for only a few years while my kids were young,” she says, “but once I started working in religious education, there was no going back to law. I love my job and I am passionate about it. I love engaging kids in lessons that have a deeper meaning and trying to find ways to make learning fun and interesting.”

Pugh earned her Bachelor’s degree from Tufts University and her Juris Doctor from Fordham Law School. Her 11-year legal career included time spent as a litigator at Chadbourne & Parke, a large New York City law firm, and a period as deputy counsel to the New York City Department of Juvenile Justice, which oversees juvenile jails. An interview with Pugh about her career transition and her passion for her current role can be found on http://www.uucwc.org/2009/08/05/qa-robin-pugh/.
