HomeFront has three new volunteer needs that I wanted to pass on to you in case you are available and interested in helping HomeFront.

1. A hotel in Princeton is getting ready to do a major renovation and was kind enough to think of and contact HomeFront to donate the room furniture to us. Our crew needs help loading the furniture onto the truck and then unloading it at a local warehouse or possibly here at HomeFront. This work will be done from December 12 – December 16, during the day. We are looking for interested volunteers to sign up to help us during this week. The volunteer will be with a HomeFront employee and using HomeFront trucks. You do not need to commit to every day. We will appreciate any help you can give us during the week.

2. December 12 – December 16 – This is the week that our HomeFront truck will be going to local companies to pick up presents for our Christmas Wish Drive. The volunteer opportunity is to travel to the companies and assist our HomeFront drivers pick up the presents. The HomeFront truck will then head back to HomeFront to drop the presents off to get ready for the Christmas Wish Drive and present distribution.

Like To Work With a Tutoring Program? Be a Monday Night HomeFront Tutor.

UUCWC provides an effective tutoring program for school aged children here onsite. Every Monday night, some about 25 children join us for dinner and tutoring sessions. We give our tutors an opportunity to go one-on-one with a child for the evening.

We start out with a hot dinner meal, followed by 90-plus minutes of assistance with student homework. Our children range from grades 1–12, with the bulk at the elementary and junior high level. The program has been in operation for more than 12 years. Our tutors are adults, with additional support from area high school and college students. All we ask is that you make a commitment of being a consistent tutor for the school year. Our students will want your help each week.

The program permits high school junior and seniors to be tutors. Tutors do not need to be members of uucWc. Our 2011–12 school year program begins in mid-September. Ask Bernie Ruekgauer and/or Sarah Burke, co-chairs of this program, for exact dates.

All food and financial donations are needed by Monday, September 5.

The UUCWC Food Ministry is working hard to share that family feeling by providing another meal in September for HomeFront members. You can help put the “Home” in HomeFront by donating one or more of the following:

Boneless ham

Frozen mixed vegetables

Juice boxes – 6.75 oz

Financial donations, by check only, are also welcome. We have an opportunity to purchase two insulated carrying cases at $100 each and could use a few sponsors. The cost of our monthly meals, if we were to buy everything, averages $200. Donations have saved the church budget about $1,000 so far. Please place ham and vegetables in the freezer. Place juice boxes in the Food Ministry metal cabinet labeled For Food Ministry. Also be sure to record your donations on the sheet taped to Food Ministry cabinet. checks can be placed in the envelope inside the Food Ministry cabinet in the church kitchen.
