Living the Welcoming Congregation – Workshop Schedule
Aug 28th, 2010 • Category: Adult Religious Enrichment, Committee News, Council for Faith in Action, News & EventsWe are a “Welcoming Congregation”. We hear these words every Sunday. But what do they mean? Over twenty years ago UUCWC began a certification process which led to its being officially proclaimed a “Welcoming Congregation” in 1991 by the national organization, the UUA. UUCWC was the fifth congregation in the nation to receive this certification and has been actively welcoming to the LGBT community ever since.
A year ago at the General Assembly in Salt Lake City delegates became aware of an additional certification available from the UUA – “Living the Welcoming Congregation”. After research into the process and conversations with the Office of Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian, and Transgender Concerns in Boston, UUCWC received access to the Living the Welcoming Congregation curriculum.
Now, Standing on the Side of Love at UUCWC, in cooperation with Adult RE, is offering Living the Welcoming Congregation: Introduction, which will build on our earlier work, giving us the opportunity to continue the Welcoming Congregation journey together. This course is appropriate for all members and friends who are interested in deepening their own understanding of bisexual, gay, lesbian, queer, transgender, and questioning people and working to make our congregation and the world a better place for them. This two-session introduction will begin the journey for some and continue it for others. All are welcome and encouraged to participate.
In order to provide the opportunity for as many people as possible to attend this workshop, four possible two-session pairings are available:
- Sunday, Oct. 24th & Nov. 7th 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. OR
- Tuesday, Oct. 26th & Nov. 9th 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. OR
- Wednesday, Oct. 27th & Nov. 10th 10:00 – 12 noon OR
- Wednesday, Oct. 27th & Nov. 10th 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
