Council for Faith in Action Update

Mar 7th, 2010 • Category: Committee News, Council for Faith in Action

Do you know that the Council for Faith in Action is responsible for disbursement of the 40% of the plate dedicated to social justice? Do you know that YOU can submit a donation or project request?

From July 2009 to January 2010, 40 % of the plate was $4,145.07. Additionally, $1,819.30 was carried forward from the 2008/2009 church year. The Social Justice Committee requested funding for several projects that UUCWC has long supported. Thanks to you, the projects currently being funded are:

  • HomeFront Tutoring Program: $1,100 for the 2009/2010 church year
  • Loaves & Fishes: $1,250 (March 26 and 27)
  • Purchase of supplies (sheets, towels, lamps, etc.) for the UUCWC sponsored room at HomeFront’s Family Preservation Center: $335, three times a year

Also at the request of the SJ Committee, donations have been made to:

The 40% of the plate also provides funding for Journey Toward Wholeness, the New Jersey Regional Coalition, the UU Legislative Ministry of New Jersey, the UU United Nations Office and the “Standing on the Side of Love” initiative. As of this writing, CFA has been able to disburse funding to:

  • NJRC: $550 which is half of our annual membership contribution of $1,100.
  • UU United Nations Office: $500.
  • Standing on the Side of Love at UUCWC: $150 to purchase the banner by the road in front of church.

CFA makes disbursements as funds are available, and also maintains a cushion in the account for emergency requests, so some other donation and funding requests are on hold right now. Hopefully they can be funded later this spring. For more info on CFA, contact any CFA member.
