Tri-Faith Walk in Trenton – May 31

May 25th, 2009 • Category: Committee News, Council for Faith in Action

Please join Rev. Charles Stephens, carpooling from UUCWC, in this event to promote religious harmony by walking and talking together for peace. We’ll visit the Masjidut Taqwa Mosque, the NJ State Museum and Trinity Cathedral. At each stop there will be a presentation about peace from three different religious faiths – Islam, Judaism and Christianity. An interfaith potluck completes the event. Details are below.

On Sunday afternoon, May 31, 2009 residents from Mercer County and beyond will gather in the State Capital of Trenton for a Tri-Faith Walk intended to build bridges of understanding and respect among those from all religions, cultures and traditions beginning with Jews, Christians and Muslims, who have often found themselves at odds with one another.

This event is part of a statewide initiative proposed by Congressman Rush Holt to promote religious understanding and demonstrate appreciation for religious diversity within his district and throughout the state of New Jersey. The event is free and open to the public. People of all religious backgrounds and ages are welcome to attend.

Participants will gather at the Majidut Taqwa Mosque, 1001 E. State St. in Trenton beginning at 1:30 pm. There will be a presentation in the mosque on Peace in Islam at 2:00 pm. Participants will then walk (with one person driving each car to the next site) to the New Jersey State Museum Auditorium for a presentation on Peace in Judaism, with an estimated start time of 3:15 pm.

The final stop on the walk will be at Trinity Cathedral, 801 West State St. with a presentation on Peace in Christianity, beginning at about 4:30 pm. The event will conclude with an Interfaith Potluck at around 5:15 pm. Vegetarian dishes are preferred for this meal. Pork and shellfish should be avoided. Participants should make arrangements for keeping food in coolers and should have a sign to indicate what ingredients were used in the food preparation.

The Tri-Faith Walk is being co-sponsored by a number of religious and community groups in Mercer County in conjunction with Rep. Rush Holt’s Office.
