Council for Faith in Action, Social Justice CommitteeRonnie Dobrowolski, co-chair of the Social Justice Committee, delivered the Social Justice Moment on February 15, 2009.
You, the members of UUCWC have made a commitment to Social Justice, by designating 40% of the plate collection to Social Justice Projects. Your contributions have enabled UUCWC to make a positive difference in the world.
The UUCWC Council for Faith in Action determines how that money is spent. They have approved $300 for the Green Sanctuary Committee’s Sustainability Seminar Series. There are posters about this series around the church.
In addition, they’ve approved the funding for Loaves and Fishes. I’d like to tell you more about Loaves and Fishes.
For the past 20 years, UUCWC and the Princeton UU Church have joined together to feed 800 working poor and homeless people once per year. Our commitment requires about $1,250 worth of food, made possible by your contributions. More importantly it also requires you.
During the week TASK, the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen, provides meals for 1000 needy people in Trenton. On the weekend, other organizations take over this task. One of them is Loaves and Fishes.
Working with Princeton, and Loaves and Fishes we will provide the meal on March 28. There are two phases. On Friday night March 27, we’ll make 800 lunches of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for distribution on Saturday. On Saturday, March 28 we’ll cook and serve 800 ham dinners at St Mary’s Cathedral in Trenton.
We need you to help. There are many jobs from servers to cleanup. A few hours of commitment will make a great difference in the lives of others. The signup sheet is posted in the Lobby. Check the UUCWC Web Site and Crossings for details. Please donate your time in this vital project.
Don’t Come to Church Empty Handed! That’s the slogan for the food drive for the Morrisville Food Center. And …. You’ve come to church with your hands full. We’ve delivered four vans worth of food to the center. The food center sent a letter thanking UUCWC for its contributions to the food center including the food drive deliveries, the commitment of committees who deliver bags of groceries and to the many members of UUCWC who volunteer time at the center. THANK YOU from the Morrisville Food Center. We’re continuing the food drive due to the continuing economic downturn so .. Don’t Come to Church Empty Handed.
